Mbale Secondary School crushed it at the 2025 NIRA Schools Debate, held May 4–6 at Kitante Hill School, Kampala, outshining over 20 schools to claim the top spot! Bweranyangi Girls SS and Kitante Hill SS took first and second runner-up, respectively. “The energy and insight displayed by these young debaters prove Uganda’s youth are change-makers today,” said Gen. David Muhoozi, Minister of State for Internal Affairs. Students tackled hot topics like whether schools should only admit NIRA-registered students, sparking fierce debates that lit up the room
From Arua to Masaka, students like those from Nyakasura School showed why national IDs matter for education and jobs. NIRA’s Rosemary Kisembo urged, “With 18.2 million Ugandans unregistered, youth must be vocal and valid!” The debate, hosted by Pamela Malaika, tied to Uganda’s new curriculum, pushing civic vibes. Mbale SS’s win proves students can lead the charge for national ID awareness, with 5.2 million kids still needing their NINs.
