The 2025 USSSA National Boys Football Championship ended with a heart-pounding finale at Ngora High School, where Buddo Secondary School clinched the U-20 title against rivals St. Mary’s Boarding School Kitende (SMASK) in a dramatic penalty shootout. High schoolers, buckle up—this is the kind of sports drama you’ll be talking about all week!
The Match: A Battle of Titans
On May 14, 2025, two Wakiso Zone powerhouses faced off on Ngora’s Pitch 1 in Teso Zone. The crowd was electric, with fans buzzing and even USSSA President Emeritus Patrick Alfred Okanya cheering from the stands. The game kicked off with both teams locked in a fierce 0-0 stalemate. By the 15-minute mark, neither side had budged, and the tension was thicker than your math textbook. Halftime came with no goals, leaving everyone on edge for the second half.
The second stanza was just as intense, with both Buddo SS and SMASK fighting tooth and nail. By the 41st minute, the score was still 0-0, and despite some close calls, full-time arrived with no breakthrough. It all came down to penalties to decide the champion.
In the penalty shootout, Buddo SS held their nerve, converting six kicks, while SMASK’s Santos Agok missed a crucial shot. Buddo’s goalkeeper, Mukisa Owen, made a game-changing save, and Ronald Ssegirinya sealed the 6-5 victory with a cool final penalty. The Ngora pitch erupted as Buddo claimed their third championship title in history

Tournament review
This championship wasn’t just about football—it was a vibe. Over 1,600 players from 64 schools battled it out from May 5 to 15, rocking new USSSA-branded jerseys that added serious swagger to the pitch. For high schoolers, this is the kind of event that shows what hard work, teamwork, and a little bit of clutch can do. Plus, it’s a chance to rep your school and maybe even catch the eye of scouts for bigger things
What’s Next?
Buddo SS is now the team to beat, but SMASK will be back with a vengeance. Keep an eye on these squads at the FEASSA games in Kenya—they’re ready to show East Africa what Uganda’s got. For now, Buddo’s victory is the ultimate flex, proving that when the pressure’s on, they’ve got the heart to win.
So, high school crew, what’s your take? Would you have stayed cool in that penalty shootout? Drop your thoughts and let’s keep the football fever going! #USSSABallGames2025
