Krysttal Kitaka Christine is the 2023-2024 Senate President of Taibah International School, Cambridge Section. She is a bright and ambitious leader majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Psychology and currently in finally year 11. In an exclusive, she shares the ups and downs of leadership in a diverse institution of learning such as Taibah hosting a number of different nationalists. She also shares her super power in staying a linguist, speaking the language of the common during her reign amidst her colleagues.

QUESTION: Becoming a Senate President must have been a dream come true, was it a pulling or pushing factor that accumulated to this success?
ANSWER:  Pulling, definitely pulling.

QUESTION: Huh, take us back to the moment.
ANSWER:  While I was in Ordinary level, I had this burning ambition in me to becoming a student leader, for I was always passionate about organization. And it would always feel different and nice once I had an involvement in it.

Finding comfort in being positive about yourself. We are living in a very competitive world and it’s very normal for a student of these days to compare themselves to their peers in co-curricula’s’, class, work space or anywhere..

QUESTION: That must be great?
ANSWER:  Yes, it’s the most satisfying feeling am carrying now. I mean, I had passion for leadership and the moment I step in my advance classes, once the slots opened, I applied and boom passed through the entire process and achieved that long awaited dream of guiding my fellow colleagues.

QUESTION: And how is that working out for you now?
ANSWER:  It is hard, yeah. My take is, I pretty much wonder how presidents manage to keep it all together because here I am running a small society of about a thousand and there they are running societies of millions.

QUESTION: Striking a balance in between performance in academics and leadership is one challenge for most people, what has your take been on it?
ANSWER:  Extra lessons and pinching time off recreations. Now I do understand many will have a say, study without play makes John a dull boy. However, there’s a fine between I and any other person.

QUESTION: You say so? Why and what makes you think that?
ANSWER:  I possess a power in my leadership role and how the rest perceive me, meaning with that power comes great responsibility upon my shoulders not only limited to me rather the entire school.

QUESTION: With all the changes that you have had to go through, how has your friend circle been?
ANSWER:  My friends had to understand I my positions, they had to read between the lines and realize I know carry the weight of the entire school.

QUESTION: How large is your Senate cabinet?
ANSWER:  I run a 46 senate cabinet, I inclusive of the count.

QUESTION: There’s a saying too many cooks spoil the soup, how have you managed to check your cabinet and put them in place?
ANSWER:  It is one of the most challenging roles if I must say, for every decision you end up taking has to be the best for all the representatives. Though sometimes it does not include everyone.

QUESTION: We have seen fights in the parliament when disagreements arise, how have you prevented that scene from your sittings?
ANSWER:  Paying a keen ear to all possible raised challenges regardless of their magnitude. I have mastered the art of giving a platform for everyone who feels they have sensitive data to push out.

QUESTION: Let’s talk about your manifestos and how far into it? We are hoping you didn’t promise people sweets that were never delivered, huh?
ANSWER:  I did actually promise people sweets and I deceived, it always works, ha-ha. However, as I said earlier, communications are key ingredient in a civilized society delivery wrong and boom you kill in masses. I and my colleagues promised to organize the assembling proceedings of the school and now in one announcement, we can reach anyone in the school regardless of their whereabouts.

QUESTION: How is that possible?
ANSWER:  We convinced the administration to have a talking compound, one that would ease parents hustle of looking for their children during evening pick off and other subsequent proceedings.

QUESTION: Your now half way your term of office, how much of impact has this office had on you?
ANSWER:  In many uncountable occasions, I find myself thoroughly contemplating my actions before taken. It has shaped me to critically think beyond the ordinary see.

QUESTION: The Pearl of Africa Civic Engagement, tell us more.
ANSWER:  Yeah, so this is program that through my leadership abilities has enabled me to feature in it, it is organized under the office of the American Embassy and I am running a project to do with raising awareness for our dying climate.

QUESTION: The one message you would very much convey to the entire population outside their now through School Newspaper?
ANSWER:  Finding comfort in being positive about yourself. We are living in a very competitive world and it’s very normal for a student of these days to compare themselves to their peers in co-curricula’s’, class, work space or anywhere. However, comparing how you think, how you dress or anything puts you in an unnecessary race with others yet you could focus at improving yourself at your own pace, taking your failures as first attempts in learning.
